Fundamental principles of chemistry for majors in the sciences, health sciences, and engineering; topics include measurements, fundamental properties of matter, states of matter, chemical reactions, chemical stoichiometry, periodicity of elemental properties, atomic structure, chemical bonding, molecular structure, solutions, properties of gases and an introduction to thermodynamics and descriptive chemistry. It is recommended to have had previous coursework in chemistry within the last five years; at least high school chemistry or CHEM 1405

Study of the properties and behavior of hydrocarbon compounds and their derivatives. Designed for students in science or pre-professional programs. This course covers general principles and theories of elementary organic chemistry, with special emphasis on characteristics, structures, preparation, reactions, and nomenclature of hydrocarbons, alkyl halides, alcohols, and ethers. The student is introduced to micro-scale lab techniques.

CHEM-2425  Organic Chemistry II
Study of the properties and behavior of hydrocarbon compounds and their derivatives. Designed for students in science or pre-professional programs. This course covers general principles and theories of elementary organic chemistry, with special emphasis on characteristics, structures, preparation, reactions, and nomenclature of aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and amines. This course also covers stereochemistry and some elementary concepts in biochemistry. Microscale lab techniques are utilized.
